Session information

Family sessions can be done either in my studio or outside at a location of your choice. Both types of sessions include posing guidance and prompts to pull out the personalities of everyone in your family. In the studio, I can also capture the more timeless, editorial style of a family photo as well. When booking a family session, we will discuss your vision and style that you would like to achieve whether it be a more clean, editorial style in the studio or a free flowing, candid look outside. If you have a special location in mind, tell me about it! We can go and explore any location you enjoy for your family photo experience.

First and foremost, please know it’s okay for them to be shy. I have kids, I completely understand it. Just trust the process! Second and most important, please do not use the time during your session to discipline your kids. I’m going to ask them to do silly things. It’s okay if they don’t *listen*. We want their real personality to shine through and as long as they’re being safe, it's ok! Just take a breath, and smile. It’s going to be just fine!

This will depend on if you want studio or an outdoor session. Studio will take place in my studio and typically the best time is late morning around 11am or evening around 6pm. For outdoor sessions, location will greatly depend on time of year and scenery you want in your images. The beauty of Northern Michigan gives us a lot of great location options! Please don't be afraid to come to me with ideas so we can brainstorm! I'm still discovering locations myself! For timing of outdoor sessions, I prefer to do them a couple hours before sunset, during the golden hour time window! It provides the best lighting!

The most photogenic look is color coordinating outfits in neutral tones with a pop of color. Stay away from matchy matchy looks as well as busy prints as they are very distracting and don't photograph well.

Yes I do! I will completely direct your family using prompts to create the images I’m aiming to capture. These poses are going to encourage interaction with your family to create those candid images we love! In the studio, I will also include more direct posing as well for that timeless traditional photo.
